1. Background NEPAL aspires to graduate from least developing country to a lower middle-income country by 2026. However, the development community’s excessive focus today on socio-political empowerment has not yielded the desired economic transformation. DAAYITWA, with a focus on economic empowerment, envisions an enterprising Nepal where every youth has opportunities for a prosperous future. Daayitwa is a part of the Daayitwa Abhiyaan which consists of four organizations: Daayitwa, Governance Lab, Nepal Leadership Academy based in Nepal and Nepal Rising (Daayitwa-US) based in the U.S. Inspired by shared values of innovation, collaboration, and service, it promotes the socio- economic development of Nepal. The movement fosters inclusive and equitable economic growth by accelerating grassroots innovations, strengthening government institutions, and revitalizing a virtuous cycle of democracy and development through grassroots-government collaboration.

The “Renewable Energy for Resilient Agri-food Systems (RERAS)” project is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with financial support from the Embassy of Norway and the Embassy of Finland. The Entrepreneurial Foundations training is intended to help participants build a practical understanding of entrepreneurship and the process of identifying and developing viable business opportunities. The training will introduce participants to entrepreneurial thinking, the basic steps involved in starting a business, and ways to connect personal interests and skills with market needs. It will also introduce the concepts of climate resilience and climate-friendly business models, while strengthening participants’ ability to identify problems and consider practical solutions that can support business viability.

Present Context:
This training is designed for incubator participants, who have not yet started an enterprise but have some interest and ideas to start an enterprise. Participants may be at different stages of exploring or developing an enterprise. The training should therefore use accessible language, locally relevant examples, and participatory learning methods to help participants relate the concepts to their own skills, resources, communities, and potential markets.

Based on the learnings from this workshop, the participants will create their business initiation plans and present to a panel of judges. Based on the presentations, enterprises will be selected for the next round of the incubation program.

The entrepreneurs are primarily in the agriculture sector or running an enterprise that uses renewable energy.
The training should emphasize practical exercises, individual reflection, group work, and discussion rather than lecture-based delivery. Participants should have opportunities to identify local problems and needs, map their own interests and skills, explore possible business opportunities, and consider how climate-related risks and environmentally responsible practices may affect their business ideas.
