1. Background Background NEPAL aspires to graduate from the least developing country to a lower middle-income country by 2026. However, the development community’s excessive focus today on socio-political empowerment has not yielded the desired economic transformation. And, shall we strengthen grassroots-government collaboration in shaping an equal and enterprising future? DAAYITWA, with a focus on economic empowerment, envisions an enterprising Nepal where every youth has opportunities for a prosperous future. Daayitwa is a part of the Daayitwa Abhiyaan which consists of four organizations: Daayitwa, Governance Lab, Nepal Leadership Academy based in Nepal and Nepal Rising (Daayitwa-US) based in the U.S. Inspired by shared values of innovation, collaboration, and service, it promotes the socio- economic development of Nepal. The movement fosters inclusive and equitable economic growth by accelerating grassroots innovations, strengthening government institutions, and revitalizing a virtuous cycle of democracy and development through grassroots-government collaboration

The “Renewable Energy for Resilient Agri-food Systems (RERAS)” project is implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with financial support from the Embassy of Norway and the Embassy of Finland. Under this project, Daayitwa is implementing the Rural Enterprise Incubation and Acceleration Program, which supports rural entrepreneurs, particularly women- and youth-led enterprises, to start, strengthen and grow their businesses through a sequence of capacity building, incubation and acceleration activities.
As part of the program’s capacity building component, the training on ‘Business Growth and Planning’ (Module 1) aims to help acceleration entrepreneurs understand how businesses grow,
which scaling strategies suit their context, and how to use the Business Model Canvas (BMC) to plan the growth of their enterprise.

Present Context:
In the acceleration program, the participants are existing enterprises who are looking for growth. They have been operating for at least one year and are already generating revenue. Many run small enterprises with limited exposure to structured growth planning, and may have different levels of prior experience with business planning tools. This module is in the pre-selection phase and is the first activity in the learning sequence.
Based on the learnings from this workshop, the participating entrepreneurs will create their business model canvas and growth plans and present to a panel of judges. Based on the presentations, enterprises will be selected for the next round of the acceleration program.
The entrepreneurs are primarily in the agriculture sector or running an enterprise that uses renewable energy.
The training should therefore be practical and participatory, using group work, exercises and discussions built around participants’ own enterprises, rather than relying on lectures. By the end of the training, each participant should have a draft Business Model Canvas that reflects how they plan to grow their enterprise.

2. Objectives

• Help entrepreneurs understand the concept of business growth and its key indicators

• Support entrepreneurs to develop their Business Model Canvas to guide business growth
• Help entrepreneurs assess their current stage of business through the SWOT analysis and business model canvas and identify realistic growth opportunities
• Selection of participants for the next phase of the program

• Understanding of the nine components of the Business Model Canvas and how they connect
