On April 19, 2016, Daayitwa announced the Daayitwa Women Rural Enterprise Acceleration Program (WREAP), 2016 Palpa amid a formal event attended by government officials, politicians affiliated to various parties, local leaders, business community and members of the media at the District Development Committee office in Palpa.The Chief District Officer, Mr. Babu Ram Gautam was the Chief Guest at the event.
The main objective behind Daayitwa WREAP is to encourage women entrepreneurship and its growth in the region as women entrepreneurs are still and understated bedrock and untapped resource of Nepal’s economy.
In order to promote the women enterprise challenge, Daayitwa’s team visited several women entrepreneurs in Palpa at their workplace. Women entrepreneurs in Palpa are involved in a wide range of ventures, agribusiness, animal husbandry, to manufacturing. Each of the women entrepreneur had their own unique story about their journey of entrepreneurship.
The team met Purna Maya Maharjan, one of the first women entrepreneurs in Palpa, and credited to be the pioneer of the Dhaka industry in Palpa. Purna Maya has been promoting the trade for many years and has given employment opportunity to many women in her community, some of whom have now opened their own dhaka industry.
Palpa has many women entrepreneurs who are involved in a wide range of ventures, from agriculture to manufacturing. Our main aim through the Daayitwa WREAP is to promote and encourage women entrepreneur’s participation in Daayitwa’s aim to build a movement of young rural entrepreneurs who accelerate their innovations and nurture entrepreneurial communities for a thriving Nepal.
On 22nd August, the Top 20 entrepreneurs were felicitated in a ceremony attended by the Chief District Officer Mr. Baburam Gautam as Chief Guest, and Mr. Chudamani Bashyal from the District Development Committee as Special Guest. Other guests also included former District Enterprise Challenge winners Mr. Durga Bahadur Khand and Mr. Om Saru, other community leaders, other entrepreneurs and the media.
On November 3, the Daayitwa team traveled to Palpa with a team of 7 jury members to evaluate the Top 20 women entrepreneurs and select the Top 10. Joint Secretary Ms. Yam Kumari Khatiwada of the Ministry of Industry attended the Top 10 announcement event as Chief Guest. She highlighted key takeaways, gave an overview of the government’s efforts and reiterated commitment for the SME sector.
