USYC 2016

Members of USYC 2016

This years USYC 2016 members include 50 highly motivated individuals from all over Nepal who represent various disciplines. Over the year, the USYC member will be involved in Civic Engagement Projects (CEPs) which will be carried out in their communities.

Aashika Sharma
Aashika has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She takes an avid interest in art management, tourism and in providing platform for youth empowerment. Trained in the Managing the Arts Program, Aashika while working as the regional co-ordinator of Artlab’s Prasad Project managed and curated the first Urban Art Exhibition in Pokhara.  At present Aashika is engaged in her project “FolkColor” that intends to preserve the oral lore and intangible heritage in and around her city, Pokhara.
Aban Gautam
Dr. Aban Gautam is a young, energetic MBBS graduate. He is currently the President of Mountain Heart Nepal, which aims to provide free treatment to people living in remote areas of Nepal. Since the devastating earthquake of April 25, 2015, he was actively involved in providing medical and psychological support to the most affected areas.
Abhishek Raja Shahi
Besides pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering at Pulchowk Campus, Abhishek Raja Shahi is also actively involved in several  organizations, such as Smart Club, Amnesty Association Nepal, Civil Engineering Students’ Society Nepal amongst others. Abhishek wants to become an influential speaker and hopes to contribute to the development of Nepal as a member of a think tank.
Alisha Singh

Alisha Singh is a learner with an unquenchable thirst. She is an ambivert who believes in achieving her goal with her dedication and hard work. She is pursuing a Bachelor degree in Business Administration from Nepal College of Management. An aspiring entrepreneur, Alisha is passionate about uplifting people’s living standard through entrepreneurship. Currently, Alisha is engaged in her upcoming venture and is excited to embark her career as a young entrepreneur.

Anusha Shrestha
Anusha Shrestha is an A-levels graduate who is currently working with Safetyknot as a Program Assistant. An active volunteer since age of 13, Anusha has worked with SOS Children’s’ Village, Teach for Nepal, and has coordinated/organized many social events. Anusha likes to describe herself as a dreamer who believes that equality amongst all, whether regarding gender, sexuality, socioeconomic background, etc. is the key solution to all problems. She has learned that experience is the best teacher and is open to trying new things.
Asha Pariyar
Asha Pariyar hails from Sunsari, Prakashpur-3. She has a Bachelor degree in Social Work from Santwona College and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in  Sociology at Padma Kanya Multiple Campus. Asha also works at Aayam Skill Development Center as Drug Abuse Prevention Program Officer.  Having an interest in bringing positive change in the society and an inherent interest in case based discrimination, SRHR, and Drug Abuse Problems, Asha has worked in various organizations that work for these causes.
Asmita Khadka
Asmita Khadka Katakuti-5, Dolakha is Founder/Treasurer of 4-H Nepal. She is presently working at as a sub-editor. Asmita has a Bachelor degree in Journalism and English literature from Tribhuwan University. She is currently pursuing an LL.B.  Asmita is a strong advocate for youth participation in community development, farming therapy, and youth issues. After the devastating earthquake of April 25, 2015, Asmita worked as a volunteer coordinator responsible for mobilizing 600 volunteers. She worked closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Government of Nepal to mobilize volunteers.
Ayush Man Tamrakar
Ayush Man Tamrakar is pursuing a  Master’s in Business Administration from Ace Institute of Management. He is currently working in the Strategic Adjacencies and Customer Channel department of Ncell. He is also actively engaged in the Professional Development Avenue of Rotaract Club of Himalaya Patan. Through his involvement with various  social internship programs, associations, seminars and volunteering activities, he thrives to motivate others to work for their growth and development.
Barun Sahani
Barun Sahani is a fourth year student of Architecture in Pulchowk Engineering College. Kathmandu. He is originally from VDC Benauli in Bara District. Barun has always been interested in social work, and has always strived to bring positive change in his community.
Bijay K Shahi
Bijay Kumar Shahi is a budding development worker with more than 5 years of experience working in the development sector of Nepal and abroad. Recently, he received a research fellowship from The Japan Foundation and has been working with them to impart disaster education to children of disaster vulnerable countries and has conducted projects in Thailand and Japan. At present, Bijay is conducting disaster education project in Nepal where his main aim is to break the stereotypical cocoon and come up with new progressive teaching pedagogies to make the learning process more efficient.
Bimala Tiwari
Bimala Tiwari is currently pursuing her Bachelor in Management from Tribhuvan University. In 2010, she joined CWIN as financial and social education training facilitator / adolescent facilitator. She also worked as an accountant in 2012 with Kid Zone International shop. Since 2013, Bimala worked with Health Ed Connect, as a health volunteer. Her work revolved around creating awareness on health related issues. In 2014, she contributed as a team member on a short project named “Sports for Change” funded by the US embassy.
Bindhyawatee Rai
A recent graduate of Allahabad Agriculture University, India, Bindhyawatee Rai was the first in her family who received a scholarship to pursue her higher education. From a young age, she had been interested in volunteering work and was part of the National Cadet Corps.
Binod Gautam
Binod Gautam is working as a Creative Director at Feature Studios Pvt. Ltd and a student of Multimedia Studies at Islington College. He is keenly interested in photography and cinematography and incorporates his love for these fields in performing his daily duties at work. He occasionally pens short stories and song lyrics. An avid traveler, Binod strives to see the beauty that the world has to offer and to capture it in his photographs and stories.
Chandani Pokharel
Chandani Pokharel hails from Dhading and is currently residing in Kathmandu. She is pursuing a Bachelor degree  in Nursing as well as a Bachelor degree in Social Work. Chandani has always been interested in women empowerment and at present she is conducting research on the possible ways  prostitution can be legalized in Nepal and on the upliftment of  female reproductive health (cervical and breast cancer).
Dinesh Adhikari
Dinesh Adhikari is pursuing a Bachelor degree in Social Work from Supreme College.  He has been engaged in various social work activities for the past five years. He is very much inclined towards conducting awareness programs related to youth. Dinesh is also engaged in Youth Alliance for Environment (YAE) and has been working in various fields related to environmental sciences.
daayitwa_usyc_Dipendra-Pant_2016Dipendra Pant Dipendra Pant has a Bachelor degree in Agriculture Science from the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences (IAAS), Bhairahawa, Rupandehi under Tribhuvan University. Growing up in Kanchanpur, Dipendra witnessed the hard life farmers faced to earn their livelihood. Inspired by his father, a headmaster in a government school, and his mother who was a simple housewife, he decided to pursue a profession working for the betterment of farmers. Currently, he is working at NEEDS-NEPAL as an Agriculture Officer to enhance the livelihood of the backward community of Kanchanpur district.
 daayitwa_usyc_Gaurav-Thapa_2016Gaurav Thapa Born in Kathmandu, from a young age Gaurav Thapa has been in various leadership positions for organizations in Nepal and South Asia. Gaurav served as a member of Executive Board at South Asian Students for Liberty in 2014 and led many youth from South Asia in advocating the ideas and importance of liberty. He also founded the Bangalore Students for Liberty in the year 2015 where he completed his undergraduate studies. As the  General Secretary of Plant Tree Nepal, he believes in a safer and greener world and has worked towards planting trees in urban and rural Nepal.
 daayitwa_usyc_Jayanti-Acharya_2016Jayanti Acharya Jayanti Acharya is pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Gomendra Multiple Campus under Purwanchal University of Nepal.  She has always been interested in developing the economic prosperity of her community and her country. Because of her interest for economic empowerment, Jayanti volunteered in micro-financial awareness program to local women of  Budhabare VDC in Jhapa. She has also worked as a radio journalist in Birat FM. Jayanti is also a local coordinator of South Asia Students for Liberty.
 daayitwa_usyc_Mina-Majhakoti_2016Maina Majhakoti Mina Majhakoti is originally from Bandipur, Tanahun who dreams of becoming a changemaker. She has Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Rural Development. She has been actively engaged in social sector and has volunteered for many organizations that work for the rights of children. Mina also worked as the District Program Director to Children’s World Peace Organization for three years. She has represented Nepal in South Asia People’s Conference, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
daayitwa_usyc_Mohammad-Ayatullah-Rahman_2016Mohammad-Ayatullah-Rahman A resident of Surkhet, Mohammad Ayatullah Rahman is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree. A volunteer at the Nepal Red Cross from a young age, Mohammad is now one of its distinguished members of the Nepal Red Cross Society. He has also volunteered in many local and national NGOs and received national and international training on sexual reproductive health, gender and climate change. He has always believed that language should never be a barrier to help the needy.

Ngawang Dorji Sherpa

Ngawang Dorji Sherpa, a representative of Solukhumbu district, is pursuing his Bachelors degree in Travel and Tourism Management from Public Youth Campus. His goal is to create trust in his district and to provide skill development courses and leadership training in his community. Ngawang aims to own a tourism business after completion of his studies and dreams of creating employment opportunities in his community through his business.


Nhasala Joshi

Nhasala Joshi is an engineer and co-founder of Women Leaders in Technology, a leadership organization for female tech students. She is currently working as Hardware Engineer at Kazi Studios. Prior to it, she worked in the Research and Development at Karkhana Pvt. Ltd. to create products involved in their education curriculum. She has been involved in Yantra- annual art- tech showcase for past three years. In 2016, Nhasala became a Wedu Rising Star.

Nishant Khanal

Nishant Khanal is an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in business. He has a passion for economics, public policy and development, and wishes to further his skills and expertise in these fields. An avid reader, Nishant has published his book reviews in some of Nepal’s prestigious magazines and newspapers. Besides his studies, Nishant actively volunteers for the causes he believes in. During the devastating earthquake in April 25, 2015, he also actively participated in the relief efforts.

Nishan Dulal


A third year student of Bachelor in Public Health and a football enthusiast, Nishant Dulal works at Cloudfactory where his major task is to digitize receipts and to conduct community service projects every three months. He also works as an advisory member of the student council of NOC. In 2013, Nishan was selected as a volunteer leader for a program organized by Siksha Nepal.

Nishma Adhikari

Nishma Adhikari is an IT enthusiast and android developer. She aspires to be a tech entrepreneur and uplift women in this field. She strongly roots for the women’s participation in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) field. She is an avid book lover who is keen about reading leadership and motivational books. She loves travelling and the stories that unfold with each new place. Nishma believes Nepal has a lot to offer to its young generations, provided that there is political stability.

Nivita Pradhan

Nivita Pradhan is currently pursuing an MBA degree in Marketing from Ace Institute of Management. While studying abroad for seven years, Nivita worked as an International Student Ambassador to highlight on Nepal’s culture as well as the issues faced within the country. Additionally, she worked on a project to help educate the children of Pithauli village in Nepal. Nivita has also been engaged in women empowerment projects, refugee kids projects as well as international conferences as a participant and speaker.


Palistha Dangol

Palistha Dangol is currently pursuing her Bachelor degree in Development Studies from National College. She is working as a core member of Cycle City Network Nepal, with the vision to make Kathmandu a cycle friendly city. She leads “women on wheels” campaign, which trains women to ride bicycle for daily commute. Palistha dreams of a less polluted world and mind.

Poonam Ghimire

Poonam Ghimire is a student of B.Sc. Forestry in Institute of Forestry, Hetauda and a blogger in UNICEF Voices of Youth, “Youth Power Global Leader” from Nepal in “Youth Power Campaign” of Restless Development. She is also a “Rising Star” at WEDU and member at various national and international organizations. Poonam has represented Nepal in “Global Youth Consultation on World Humanitarian Summit” in Doha in September 2015.  Her aim in life is to drive the social change to create the equal, just, peaceful, sustainable and developed society for our generation and our future generations.

Prakash Koirala

A Global Award Winner in Youth Financial Education Awareness Award 2015, Prakash Koirala has been working in financial literacy since 2012. With his work, Prakash has been able to reach 175 schools/college/university and community villages to train more than 40,000 people about financial education. He has been working closely with the Central Bank of Nepal since 2015 in Global Money Week. Since 2014, Prakash earned different fellowship from Geneva University Excellency Fellowship, Mastercard Foundation, and World Bank Institute. Currently, Prakash is pursuing a Master’s degree in Economics from Golden Gate International College.

Prathana Khakurel

An enthusiastic, self motivated person, Prathana Khakurel is an Electronics and Communication Engineering graduate from Tribhuvan University. She is currently involved in Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN). At RAN, she has been contributing to the idea of  ‘Women for Women’ in the field of technology as a founding member of team ‘Miss­Tech’. As women are vastly outnumbered by men in technical jobs, she has been helping and creating a platform for young women to find a way forward in their careers by organizing workshops and training programs,especially in the field of technology and engineering. 

Punam Giri

Punam Giri is currently pursuing Master’s degree in Business Administration and is currently involved with Bikalpa-an Alternative, a public policy think tank based in Biratnagar where works as a Visual Media Officer. He also co-founded “Students for Ideas”- a student wing of Bikalpa, which promotes the idea of Liberty among college students. In his free time, he loves listening to music and is interested in movie making. Till date, he has made more than 5 movies on the issues related to accountability, livelihood, and private property. He is currently working to promote the ideas of freedom, liberty, democracy and rule of law in the eastern part of Nepal.

Rabindra Panta

Rabindra Panta is from Kavre, Nepal. He is currently pursuing a Bachelors in Arts from Ratna Ratna Rajya Campus, Kathmandu majoring in Sociology and Rural Development. He is also the Director of Spars-Nepal, which works for the betterment of underprivileged and physically challenged people. Rabindra is also the Board member of Joining Hands for a change- a non-profit organization which is situated in Maharajung, Kathmandu. The organization works to help street and orphan children by providing them with a safe home and helping to keep them out from the streets. Rabindra is an active member of organizations that are involved in the disability empowerment movement in Nepal.

Rahul Roy

Rahul Roy is a first year undergraduate student majoring in Sociology and English. He also has a diploma degree in Architecture from the Institute of Engineering Thapathali Campus. In addition to his work in designing buildings, Rahul has volunteered in organizations such as Kids Teach Kids, USA, and ‘We for Change’. Having worked with people from all over the world has improved his analytical skills and has shaped his learning attitude. In his free times, Rahul loves to explore the beauty of Nepal and capture them in camera. During his travels, he likes to interact with the local people, explore their culture and food.

Rajesh Paudel

Rajesh Paudel is a student of Social Work and Psychology at Tri-Chandra Multiple Campus. He comes from a humble background from the village of rural Baglung who is the first in his family to attend college. From a young age, he had been good in studies, and was the SLC topper of Shree Satidhunga Secondary School in his batch. His hard work once again paid off when he was top of the class of BA first year in Tri-Chandra Multiple Campus. He has also worked as a teacher for over a year in Shree Laxmi Bhawan Primary School Parbat. And also volunteered for various organizations such as Shiksha Nepal, Himalayan Climate Initiative, etc. Rajesh is young, strong, and driven to bring positive change in his society.

Raju Chauhan

Raju Chauhan is a permanent resident of Sankuwasabha district. He recently completed his Master’s degree in Environmental Science from Tribhuvan University as a fellow of Chandra Gurung Memorial Fellowship awarded by WWF Nepal. Currently he is working as a Program Officer at Youth Alliance for Environment (YAE) and a part-time lecturer at Amrit Campus. His specific interest is on research and advocacy for environment protection. Raju has been involved in various research related to climate change and environment conservation with national and international teams and has participated in a number of conferences. He is also a photographer and documentary filmmaker by passion.

Rama Khadka

Rama Khadka is pursuing a Bachelor degree in Public Health at Central Institute of Science and Technology (CiST). She has a keen interest in travelling, reading, writing, cultural interaction and music. She is highly devoted, ambitious youth who envisions herself as one of the influential change-makers in the society. She is working as Vice President at Golden Dreams Nepal, a non-profit organization; member in Public Health Students Association Nepal, and volunteer at Yuwa, a youth led and managed organization.

Ramit Kumar Shah

Ramit Kumar Shah, an MBBS graduate from IOM is currently undergoing internship at T. U. Teaching Hospital. He not only aims to become a good doctor but also a responsible citizen. He has volunteered in several health camps and awareness campaigns across Nepal. An advocate of gender equality, safe abortion, LGBTI rights, environment conservation, access to affordable medicine and open access to research articles, he has a keen interest in world history, politics and geography. Apart from being a critical thinker, he is a travel enthusiast, movie fanatic, music admirer and a comic fan with a good sense of humor.

Rekha Bohora

Rekha is an innovative and passionate Software Developer who is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology at Tribhuwan University. Rekha also works at Web Sutra as IOS Mobile App Developer at Enterprise RTO management system. She is involved in Women Leaders in Technology (WLiT) promoting young women towards Science and Technology. She is also a Microsoft Student Ambassador at Microsoft Innovation Center Nepal.

Rhitika Poudel

Rhitika Poudel graduated with an engineering degree in Biotechnology from India. She worked as a Research Assistant for Water Supply project to make quality of life better for women in Rupandehi district. She is passionate about making an impact, helping others and voicing about issues that are usually covered and regarded as a stigma in the society. Rhitika is also a good dancer and has represented Nepal in an international stage. She believes in discipline, self motivation and teamwork.

Sabin Budhathoki

Sabin Budhathoki is pursuing a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy as well as a Bachelor degree of Law from Tribhuwan University. He has  six years of working experience with various NGOs of Nepal designing and executing local and national level projects focused on the youth participation in politics and community, empowerment, and peacebuilding. Sabin is highly interested in social work, youth policy, sustainable development goal and international relations.

Samriddhi Subedi

Samriddhi Subedi is currently pursuing her Bachelors in Business Administration from KIST College Kathmandu. Born to a middle class family in Myagdi district of Nepal, Samriddhi completed both her schooling and higher education on government scholarships. Since her schooldays, she has been actively engaged in organizations such as the Nepal Red Cross Society; Papropakar Samudayak Sastha, and Kosheli Baal Club. Samriddhi also worked as the coordinator of the ‘intra college business competition’ held at KIST College BBA 6th semester. At present, Samriddhi volunteers at the National Development Foundation (NDF).


Shreni Rajbhandary

Shreni Rajbhandary (19) is the youngest serving Executive Board member at Youth Thinkers’ Society (YTS). A student of Development Studies at National College, she has facilitated, moderated and organized several national and international programs of YTS, US Embassy, UN Habitat, Global Peace Foundation, JAFS/AFS-Nepal, National college and many more. A passionate campaigner for social and environmental causes, Shreni has also spoken about environmental issues on the BBC.

Sijan Guragain

Aiming to specialize in international law and international development, Sijan Guragain is a B.A., LL.B. scholar. Having worked with the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, National Judicial Academy, the International Legal Foundation and many more, Sijan has extensive research and work experiences. He is passionate about law and has worked in administration of several international and national programs including MUN conference.

Sudin Bajracharya

After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies from University of West London, Sudin Sundar Bajracharya is currently interning at Daayitwa, a leadership non-profit, as Administration and Communication Intern. Passionate on sharing people’s stories through videos, he has created several promotional videos for Women Rural Enterprise Acceleration Project (WREAP), and Leading Rural Enterprise Innovation Project (LREI).


Swastika Lama

Hailing from Kavrepalanchowk, Swastika Lama has been a strong voice for the rights of sexual and minority issues from a young age. Since 2007, Swastika has been actively involved in promoting programs and initiatives that support the rights of sexual and minority groups. She has been involved with Mitini Nepal and is affiliated with Sexual and Minorities Student Forum Nepal.

Trishna Thapa

Trishna Thapa is currently pursuing her LL.M. in Human Rights and Gender Justice from Kathmandu School of Law. As the President of Leo Club of Bhrikuti 2013, Local Coordinator of South Asian Students for Liberty 2014, she organized various national and international level conferences on youth issues. She is currently engaged in advocating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations and also promoting the importance of the SDGs in the least developed countries including Nepal. She serves as the Vice President at World Merit Nepal and is also a Vice President elect of Youth Thinker’s Society.


Tsewang Nuru Sherpa

From a young Sherpa boy living high up in the mountains, to a young confident student, Tsewang Nuru Sherpa’s journey has not been anything short of a roller coaster ride. His passion for learning fueled his intellectual curiosity, motivating him to pursue higher education. At present, Tsewang is an undergraduate student of Environmental Science at Nami College. He has not lost his curiosity for learning new things. Tsewang sees himself as one of the confident young leader of Nepal.

Yajaswi Rai

Growing up watching Meena Cartoon series, Yajaswi Rai realized the importance of education and awareness. She volunteered in various organizations that worked for those causes. She is also the General Secretary of the Students Council, and has successfully organized and facilitated projects like Next Gen Youth (2016) and Samyam (2016). A aspirant filmmaker, Yajaswi has made four short movies related to education and is working on her next project.


Yogesh Ghimire

Yogesh Ghimire is a graduate of Masters in Social Work from St. Xavier’s College with an extensive experience of social counseling for the last two years. He has been working for the earthquake reconciliation program for food organized by World Food Program as a mobilizer and counselor in Sindupalchok district. He has also worked as a research mobilizer and counselor for baseline survey in different districts of Nepal through Silt Consultancy including Scott Wilson Consultancy.
