EPI Consultation in Siddhartha Nagar

Daayitwa has been closely collaborating with Economic Policy Incubator (EPI), one of the three components of DFID’s Accelerating Investment and Infrastructure in Nepal (AiiN) programme to create an enabling environment for better economic policies in order to achieve higher levels of economic growth.

Vibhav Pradhan and Manoj Paudel, both former Daayitwa fellows are working closely with Trade and Investment Expert and former Secretary Mr. Purushottam Ojha to advise the Ministry of Industry on topics related to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Market access opportunities for Nepali products. In addition, Manoj has also been working with the EPI team, led by Former Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission and Former Ambassador to the US Dr. Shankar Sharma on identifying key constraints and opportunities for economic growth in Nepal.

As part of their ongoing study, Vibhav Pradhan met with members of Siddharthanagar Chamber of Commerce and Industries on June 15th to present key findings of our study on Special Economic Zones. The key stakeholder programme yielded valuable insights and recommendations on operating SEZ; the problems faced by SEZ; and other issues highlighted by the local enterprises of Siddharthanagar. The program highlighted the necessity of the enactment of the SEZ Bill for proper operation of SEZ as well as amendments to the current bill; requirement of infrastructural provisions like electricity, waste water treatment plant, water supply, etc.
