Daayitwa selects 30 Innovation Leaders to campaign on youth employment challenges
Youth, who are a demographic majority in Nepal, are instrumental catalysts for accelerating positive developmental transformation. Yuwa Aaja! is a three-year national campaign of the Daayitwa Movement, supported by UK Aid and organized in collaboration with ILO, to promote youth employment by 1) understanding key issues of youth employment, 2) supporting youth to lead evidence-based policy and social reforms and 3) promoting multi-stakeholder knowledge-sharing. The campaign was launched on April 10th at Hotel Himalaya, Kupondole among leading change-agents from public, private, and social sectors as well as international development communities.
Proceeding forward with the campaign- Daayitwa had called for applications from young, innovative and energetic youths from four professional spheres – politics, civil society, bureaucracy, and private sector – to become Daayitwa Innovation Leaders who can advocate for Nepali youth employment issues. Over 150 applications were received at the local, provincial, and federal levels out of which 30 innovation leaders have been selected by a jury comprised of esteemed individuals from various sectors.
At the Federal level, Jury members – Honorable Kalyan Shrestha, former Chief Justice of Nepal; Ms. Chandni Joshi, Chair of Think Tank, Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen ; and Mr. Kunda Dixit, Publisher and Editor of Himalmedia and Nepali Times selected Sixit Bhatta, Rohit Kumar Marwadi, Phurpa Sherpa, Medha Sharma, Mahesh Dahal, Dr. Jitendra Upadhyaya, Bhawana Khatiwada, Sriijung Rai, Puja Poudel and Meghna Lama as the Federal Innovation Leaders through a rigorous interview process.
Additionally, the Provincial Jury members – Mr. Krishna Gyawali, Former Secretary of Ministry of Industry; Mr. Basu Dev Ghimire, Mayor of Tilottama Municipality Rupandehi, Province-5 and Ms. Bimala Pokharel, Lecturer at Bhairahawa Multiple Campus Rupandehi, Province-5 selected 10 Provincial innovation leaders from Province 5 in Butwal. Similarly, the Local Jury members – Mr. Krishna Gyawali, Mr. Ashok Kumar Shahi, Mayor of Tansen Municipality Palpa, Province 5 and Ms. Maiya Devi Kumal, Women Development Officer of Women and Children Office Palpa, Province 5 selected 10 Local Innovation Leaders in Palpa.
The selected 30 Innovation Leaders will lead campaigns to advocate for critical domestic youth employment issues. For this, they will be given a one month leadership course designed at Harvard University through Nepal Leadership Academy. The Campaign will conclude with a National Youth Summit later this year.
Daayitwa envisions an enterprising Nepal where every citizen has opportunities for prosperous future. Through a national youth engagement campaign, Daayitwa aims to promote inclusive and enterprise-driven economic growth.
