SHAILI GHIMIRE has a Bachelor’s Degree in Critical Social Thought with a minor in Economics from Mount Holyoke College. Within her Critical Social Thought major, she examined “third world development” through the ideas of political and social theorists. For her senior research paper, she examined how international development aid organizations’ definition of civil society differs from the one presented by political theorists. She also has a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University. Shaili has interned in the development office of the Carter Center, volunteered for the Member of Legislative Assistant (MLA), and served as Recording-Secretary of CUPE 3338, the labour union representing workers at Simon Fraser University. She wants to open a garment based social enterprise with Maiti Nepal, WOREC or local artists and she is hoping to explore this business idea further with her Daayitwa Fellowship which focuses on small business enterprises.
